Welcome to the Western Day Care Centre

Winner- London's Best Day Care In London 2014

What Makes Us Special: Our Dedicated Staff – Hiring, Training, Professional Development and Long-Term Retention

Western Day Care Centres provide the highest quality early childhood education within a warm and nurturing environment.  This is, in large part, due to the recruitment and retention of highly qualified  staff, ongoing training opportunities and regular professional development.

Recruitment

  • Western Day Care Centres employ registered Early Childhood Educators.
  • All educators are required to be certified members of the Ontario Association for Early Childhood Educators.

Retention

Staff are long term employees reflecting an exceptionally low turnover (on average 14 years of service). WDC's positive work environment combined with excellent compensation and benefits are key to overall staff retention. Long-term retention is a clear indication of the staff’s commitment to Western Day Care's core values, their professionalism, and their dedication to advanced principles in early childhood education.

Training

WDC educators have been trained in Wings of Discovery ®, Canada’s first science and discovery curriculum for ages 3 months to 5 years. Created by Let’s Talk Science, Wings of Discovery ® engages young children's curiosity about the world by using science to develop language skills, mathematics, art and music. Additionally, A number of our educators have taken extended courses in Infant-Toddler care. All educating staff are trained in First Aid and CPR, and receive annual re-certification.

Professional Development

Staff are encouraged to attend two professional development workshops each year. Examples of recent workshop topics are: staff motivation, team building and communication, stress management, the development of the children’s social skills, and creating a meaningful curriculum.  Attending professional development workshops allow our educators to network with other ECE professionals, and to keep up to date on the latests developments in Early Childhood Education.

Evaluating Child Development

In addition to daily activities, the staff prepare detailed written evaluations for each child. This is done twice a year at the Preschool and more frequently for the infants and toddlers. Not only are these evaluations invaluable to the parents regarding their child’s development but they allow the staff to individualize a curriculum for each child in their particular group.

In summary, the Centre has been successful in attracting and maintaining highly qualified and caring educators. The office administration and the finance committee are proud to be part of a Centre that rewards the staff for their efforts with the ability to offer employee training programs to encourage the staff to continually build upon their existing skill sets.
